“A triumph! A powerful tale layered in history and myth, at its core is a love so vivid and fierce…”

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

I hope you’ve had a chance to read Outlander, the subject of my first review. The second book in the Outlander series, Dragonfly in Amber, opens up in Claire’s current day. We know from the end of the first novel that Claire is pregnant, so it is no surprise that her adult daughter is with her as she goes back to Scotland.

Claire is looking for information about Jamie’s life and what she finds out surprises her, enough so that she tells her daughter the story of her parentage. At this point Ms. Galbadon takes us back to Scotland and we pick up where Jamie and Claire were left off at the end of the first book.

Jamie and Claire are in France and ready to begin the next part of their lives. After recounting Claire’s tale, we go back to current day Scotland. We discover things didn’t end quite the way Claire remembers. I don’t want to ruin the story but I think, once you’ve read the book, you will agree with me when I say it’s satisfying and definitely leaves you wanting more.

Ms. Galbadon takes several years to write her books so it becomes harder and harder to wait to continue the story. At this point in time, there are eight books written and I am anxiously awaiting the ninth. Ms. Galbadon takes a tremendous amount of time with detail. She follows history very closely, including true characters of the time.

In my first review I mentioned the length of the books. Believe me when I say, time flies when you’re immersed in the stories. These books changed the way I experience reading. For me personally, it doesn’t get any better.
