“An insightful and poignant holiday novella about a man who sacrificed his family in the single-minded pursuit of success and the courageous little girl fighting for her life who crosses his path.”

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

This is listed as a Novella but it’s really a short story. The Kindle edition has it at just over 90 pages but almost half of that is an excerpt from Bear Town and short blurbs on his other books.

The story is just over 50 pages. This is a story of a man who has cancer, and while being treated in the Hospital, he befriends a young girl who is dying of the disease. He also meets death in the form of a woman who walks about the Hospital with a notebook in her hand, entering rooms where people will die.

He will have interaction with death, and he will try to save the young girls life. The story draws somewhat on a Christmas Carol at one point.

Amazon originally had this priced at $11.99 but then dropped it to its current price.

The book is illustrated throughout, and if your a fan of Backman and want to read all of his work, then by all means get it. For others, I would skip it. The one good thing about the book is the announcement of Backman’s next novel “Us Against You” coming in June of 2018.
