“The steampunk vibe of the story with its steam powered inventions, clockwork gadgetry and old school airships lends itself well to the graphic medium”

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

Set in a fictional Steampunk Victorian England , this is the story of Lady Mechanika, and her search for her true identity and for the people who gave her her mechanical components.

The mysterious Lady Mechanika is something of a tabloid darling, a media sensation in her version of Victorian England, in fact they are the ones who gave her her catchy moniker when she was first found, the sole survivor  in a mysterious laboratory , surrounded by corpses, body parts and mechanical components.

Despite knowing nothing of her true origins she manages to carve out a life for herself, getting a reputation as something of a sleuth, and one willing to take on the cases that others cannot.

She becomes intrigued when the corpse of another biomechanical girl is found and hopes that taking on the case will lead her to more information about her own past. We meet her inventive gadget man Lewis, and several of her enemies as she seeks to solve the case and kicks some ass  along the way.

The steampunk vibe of the story with its steam powered inventions, clockwork gadgetry and old school airships lends itself well to the graphic medium, in fact one of the highlights of the book is the artwork, using a subdued palette of muted colours to give it that old feel is a touch of genius. The character designs are gorgeous,(if a little anatomically questionable at times) and the action flows well on the page, making it a very dynamic and fun read.
