“Joseph D’ Lacey rocks!” Stephen King

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

Snake Eyes is a two for one book containing two unrelated novellas, A Man Of Will And Experience and A Trespasser in Long Lofting.

A Man of Will and Experience.

Robert Johnson is fighting off hordes of Man Eating Spiders in an effort to save the world… Or is he?

This is one of the most intricately interwoven, multi layered and downright vexing books I’ve read in a long time.. I can’t even really give you any more of a review without major SPOILERS but believe me, it will keep you guessing until the end, wondering which layer is the truth and which Robert Johnson exists… It’s quite Sci Fi in its subject matter and the ending wouldn’t be out of place as a Star Trek script.

It is confusing, frustrating and bloody irritating but it’s very very good and quite sad too, and if I ever meet you and cannot stop looking at the top of your head, you should probably worry..

A Trespasser in Long Lofting.

A little town, drought ridden and populated by characters that wouldn’t look out of place in a Terry Pratchett novel.. Delly Duke’s hapless neighbours are shocked when a Demon crash lands in their field, killing all the crops and making a rather big dent. The local priest claims the intruder to be a dragon and it’s immediately decided that it will be butchered and a feast will be held in honour of this welcome, if slightly pongy bounty. Delly knows better but what can one man do against a starving horde when presented with some free meat? Damage limitation that’s what.

Of course it’s not a dragon and it’s not dead and all manner of mayhem ensues.

Any book that has a chapter titled Bumcakes and a page given over entirely to describing the difficulties of negotiating a trio of gigantic demon testes whilst the town’s womenfolk are doing unspeakable things to the attached demon dong is going to be good and this certainly doesn’t let you down, humorous and witty I read it in one sitting.

Highly recommended..
