This is charmingly flippant book by Nikolai Leskov, which follows the life story of a man called Ivan Severyanych who has been told he will always live his life ‘on the brink of death but never actually manage to die’, a punishment for a misdeed.
I loved the pace and the attitude of Ivan Severyanych and can really appreciate the predicament he is faced with. He uses his curse to his advantage and never really looses sight of the man he is at his core. Throughout the whole book he remains true to himself.
