“Richard Booth’s is a lovely bookshop and tea room. So much choice of books and bargains – there’s over three floors to choose from!”

Richard Booth's Bookshop & Cafe - Hay-on-Wye

The bookshop, which is inspired by the self-proclaimed “King of Hay”, or Richard Booth – who is a Welsh bookseller. The store is housed within a beautiful tiled building, with wonderful old beams and a staircase that just smells like history! The bookshop is run magnificently by Elizabeth Haycox, and buys and sells both new and used books. The unique bookshop is definitely not small, spread over three floors, with shelves upon shelves of books – so much choice, every genre you can think of. There are also plenty of seats to relax and read, you are sure to lose track of the hours!

Richard Booth’s bookshop is not like any other bookshop, as it also has a cafe and a cinema – it really does offer a great day out! The cafe is not the cheapest, however that is because you’re paying for quality. If you want to see what is in store for you when you visit the cafe, take a look at the menu on the website! They serve pancakes, to cheese boards, to all day breakfasts on a corn tortilla – everything sounds delicious, it’ll get your mouth drooling. Some even say that the cafe is the best in Hay by far!

So whether you are getting lost in the wide array of books, stuffing your face with popcorn and sweets at the cinema, or enjoying the quirky cafe food, Richard Booth’s bookshop is the highlight of anyone’s visit to Hay-on-Wye, so be sure not to miss out on the experience!
