Children’s Picture Book Tests for Colour Blindness

A children’s picture book has been published to help find out if children are colour blind.

The Curious Eye can be bought by parents or teachers for use at home or in the classroom and cleverly mimics the clinical examination given by specialists to screen for colour blindness.

The colourful and vibrant illustrations by Ruby Wang features animals in two ways: those visible to all children, colour blind or not, and those not visible to colour blind children. The latter set are created with colourful dots in shades of red, yellow, blue and green just like in colour blindness tests.

Colour blindness, or Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD), affects 1 in 10 men and 1 in 200 women, and is most commonly genetic.

The Curious Eye book was created by Children’s Eye Foundation of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in partnership with health marketing agency Klick Health, in the hope that it may help diagnose colour blindness in young children and prevent any setbacks at school.

How many of the creatures can you see clearly in the images below?
