Born on June 16th 1972 Andy Weir is best known for his debut novel The Martian which catapulted him into the limelight when it was made into a film in 2015. Written to be as scientifically accurate as possible The Martian still managed to pull in readers from every imaginable background and his protagonist Mark Watney managed to have many of us chewing our nails to the quick into the early hours hoping against hope that he would escape his Martian prison.
His book is filled with brilliant little anecdotes and here we have chosen our favourite quotes from the Man from Mars – Andy Weir.

“I guess you could call it a “failure”, but I prefer the term “learning experience”.”
“I started the day with some nothin’ tea. Nothin’ tea is easy to make. First, get some hot water, then add nothin’.”

“It’s true, you know. In space, no one can hear you scream like a little girl.”
“If ruining the only religious icon I have leaves me vulnerable to Martian vampires, I’ll have to risk it.”

“Everything went great right up to the explosion.”
“But really, they did it because every human being has a basic instinct to help each other out. It might not seem that way sometimes, but it’s true.”

“Gay probe coming to save me. Got it.”
“Things didn’t go exactly as planned, but I’m not dead, so it’s a win.”

“I’m pretty much fucked. That’s my considered opinion. Fucked.”
“Duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshipped.”

Andy Weir’s The Martian is one of my favourite books and these quotes are just a few examples of the reason why. If you haven’t given him a try I highly recommend him.
