Catawampus (adj)
cat-a-womp-us
Positioned diagonally; cater-cornered, askew, awry, crooked.
Although not strictly accepted by the OED I couldn’t pass up such a lovely sounding word and as it has been used fairly often in literature that was a good enough reason to add it here.
Example sentences
“There’s a house in the Midlands where every wall is built catawampus to the next.”
“We took a shortcut and walked catawampus across the field.”
