Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of The Little House on the Prairie books was born on 6th February 1867. Her novels which portrayed an almost idyllic tale of pioneering life as it was in the late 19th century have remained in print since their initial publication date and have been made into a television series which was hugely popular during the late 20th century.

To celebrate Laura’s birthday we have gathered together ten truly Little House style quotes from the author herself.

“The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong.”

“I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.”

“Home is the nicest word there is.”

“The only stupid thing about words is the spelling of them.”

“There is no comfort anywhere for anyone who dreads to go home.”

“The true way to live is to enjoy every moment as it passes, and surely it is in the everyday things around us that the beauty of life lies.”

“Never bet your money on another man’s game.”

“There’s no great loss without some small gain.”

“Remember well, and bear in mind, a constant friend is hard to find.”

“A good laugh overcomes more difficulties and dissipates more dark clouds than any other one thing.”

I can picture these quotes rendered in needlepoint and in a frame on the wall. I love them all but especially the Good Friend quote.
