We’re into a new month already and the year is racing on now. As we move into Autumn, it’s time to curl up somewhere cosy and get into a good book! Thankfully we have the extensive October new releases list here and from it we’re recommending ten books we think you should read this October!
We’ve chosen from a selection of genres, so hopefully there’s something for everyone, and all ten of these books are just released, or to be released during October.
Grand Union – Zadie Smith
8th October, 2019
We wrote about this new release back in 2018 but it’s finally on its way! On 8th October, the first short story collection from Zadie Smith lands, and if you liked White Teeth and her others, get this on your TBR!
Olive, Again – Elizabeth Strout
If you fell in love with Oliver Ketteridge the first time round, then this follow up novel, Olive, Again is for you! Out on 8th October it provides a new tale for this much loved character.
The Factory – Hiroko Oyamada
29th October, 2019
This modern account of our consumer society, modern life and work life balance will be released later this month, as factory life expands and threatens to take over everything.
Salt Slow – Julia Armfield
8th October, 2019
In her electrifying debut, Julia Armfield explores women’s experiences in contemporary society, mapped through their bodies. Salt Slow incorporates many literary elements including horror, sci-fi, mythology and feminism.
A Self Portrait in Black and White – Thomas Chatterton Williams
15th October, 2019
A reckoning with the way we choose to see and define ourselves, Self-Portrait in Black and White is the searching story of one American family’s multigenerational transformation from what is called black to what is assumed to be white.
The Beautiful Ones – Prince
29th October, 2019
We brought you news of this posthumous memoir, partly written by Prince himself earlier this year and on 29th October it finally hits the shelves. You can get your preorders in now!
All This Could Be Yours – Jami Attenberg
22nd October, 2019
All This Could Be Yours is a timely, piercing exploration of what it means to be caught in the web of a toxic man who abused his power; it shows how those webs can tangle a family for generations and what it takes to—maybe, hopefully—break free.
Life Undercover – Amaryllis Fox
15th October, 2019
Amaryllis Fox’s riveting memoir tells the story of her ten years in the most elite clandestine ops unit of the CIA, hunting the world’s most dangerous terrorists in sixteen countries while marrying and giving birth to a daughter
The Secret Commonwealth – Philip Pullman
3rd October, 2019
If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the next book in Philip Pullman’s universe, book two of the Book of Dust series, then it’s on the shelves now!
The Body – Bill Bryson
15th October, 2019
The Body: A Guide for Occupants is the latest book from Bill Bryson, and it comes later this month. I don’t know about you, but I could read anything in his style and I have no doubt this will be a fascinating and enlightening read.
