Ann Beattie, American novelist and short story writer, was born September 8th in 1947 in Washington D.C, USA.
She is a multi-award-winning author who has received an award for excellence from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and the PEN/Malamud Award for excellence in the short story form.
She first gained attention in the 1970s with short stories published in The Western Humanities Review, Ninth Letter, and The New Yorker. Her first book of short stories, Distortions, was published in 1976, and her first novel, Chilly Scenes of Winter, has been adapted for film.
