8 Jane Austen Quotes that still Resonate Today

On this day in 1775 a baby girl was born, well several hundred baby girls were born actually but we are talking about one baby girl in particular. A baby girl who would grow up to pen one of the most famous novels of all time; a baby by the name of Jane Austen, the novel, Pride and Prejudice.

So what better way to celebrate her birthday than with a selection of wonderful quotes from a bygone era.

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”

“Silly things do cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way.”

“She was stronger alone…”

“I am not fond of the idea of my shrubberies being always approachable.”

“Teach us…… that we may feel the importance of every day, of every hour, as it passes.”

“She was happy, she knew she was happy, and knew she ought to be happy.”

“Perfect happiness, even in memory, is not common.”

They may be 240 years old but these quotes still resonate beautifully today.
