Spotify Wrapped highlights top audiobooks for the first time

By December 12, 2024News

In 2024’s Spotify Wrapped, the streaming platform have highlighted the top audiobooks enjoyed by their users; marking the streaming platform’s first full year offering 15 monthly audiobook listening hours to users on its Premium plan. Among the top audiobooks are the classic fantasy novel, ‘The Fellowship of the Rings’ by J.R.R. Tolkien. While topping Spotify’s audiobook charts is ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ by Sarah J. Maas.

Spotify Wrapped is an annual, much-anticipated feature that usually allows users to view their top songs, music artists, and sums up their listening habits over the year. 2024 marks the first time that audiobooks are included in Spotify’s statistics. Unfortunately, readers won’t be able to view their own top audiobooks alongside music in their personal Wrapped, however, their will see the top picks from Spotify audiobook editors which includes: the global top 10 most listened-to audiobooks, top performing genres, and best narration.

Joining Sarah J. Maas’ ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ and J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Fellowship of the Rings’ on the global top 10 most listened-to audiobooks (in order) are: ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ by Jennette McCurdy, ‘A Court of Mist and Fury’ by Sarah J. Maas, ‘It Ends With Us’ by Colleen Hoover, ‘The 48 Laws of Power’ by Robert Greene, ‘A Court of Wings and Ruin; by Sarah J. Maas, ‘A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire’ by George R.R. Martin, ‘Icebreaker’ by Hannah Grace, and ‘Fourth Wing’ by Rebecca Yarros.

Unsurprisingly, given the titles in the global top 10 of audiobooks, the top listening genre on Spotify in 2024 is Sci-fi & Fantasy. Following that genre in the top five is: Romance, Fiction & Literature, Mystery & Thriller, and Biography & Memoir.

Spotify also noted a listening spike in the year’s biggest book-to-screen adaptations, including ‘Wicked’, ‘The Idea of You’, ‘It Ends With Us’, and ‘Bridgerton.’ Audiobook listens for ‘Wicked’, for example, saw a 1,400% increase after its premiere weekend in November, Spotify told USA TODAY.
