Macmillan Children’s Books are set to publish a new picture book from Candice Carty-Williams which will mark her début in the children’s market. The new book titled, Family is a Feeling, will be written by Carty-Williams, and illustrated by the award-winning illustrator, Dapo Adeola.
Candice Carty-Williams is best known for her 2019 début novel, Queenie which was later adapted into a series of the same name for Channel 4. Her other works include People Person, and a follow-up to Queenie entitled Queenie is Working On It.
Dapo Adeola is a British-Nigerian illustrator known for co-creating and illustrating the Waterstones children’s book of 2020, Look Up!, which explored space science. He was also awarded Illustrator of the Year at The British Book Awards in 2022, and his works, which include We’re Going to Find the Monster, Speak Up, and Hey You! often explore gender and race stereotypes, providing much-needed representation in children’s literature.
Candice and Dapo’s collaboration, Family is a Feeling “is a joyful celebration of what family can be, reassuring young readers that family isn’t just who you live with – it’s where the love is,” reads the synopsis from publisher PanMacmillan.
“BB’s mummy works a lot, which means BB’s week is packed with different people and places. One night she’s at Nanny’s house, another she’s hanging out with friends, and on other nights she’s spending time with her aunt or big sister.
