LeVar Burton is best known in the UK as Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation. In the US, however, LeVar was a huge part of many Americans’ childhoods while heading up Reading Rainbow- a long-running children’s series on PBS.
The award-winning Reading Rainbow ran from 1983 to 2006 with over 150 half-hour episodes aimed at encouraging children to read. Each episode featured a different book being read out loud to the children watching, often by a celebrity. Despite its popularity the show was unfortunately cancelled thanks to financial troubles at PBS.
More recently LeVar has been hosting a new literary podcast – LeVar Burton Reads – in which he reads short fictional stories for his now-adult audience.

The first episode of LeVar Burton Reads is a science fiction story (suited to his Star Trek past!), called ‘Kin’ and written by Bruce McAllister.
Check it out below and let us know in the comments here, or on Facebook and Twitter, which short stories you’d like to hear him read next.
