Petrichor (noun)
pet-ree-kor
The smell that accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.
I love this word! And it really has just started raining here. I first heard the Doctor say it in Doctor Who, and it was the name of Amy Pond’s perfume. One of my favourite word of the day posts!
“We’ve had no rain for a couple of weeks and that meant the shower this morning gave off the beautiful petrichor that triggers childhood memories.”
“The scent of petrichor made her think of rainy April days.”
