Word of the Day – Anthropomorphism

By July 30, 2015Word of the Day

Anthropomorphism (noun)

an-thre-pe-morf-izm

The giving of human emotions and feelings to a non-human being. Often used to describe the way we humanise animals but also relevant to Gods and inanimate objects.

I adore this word, I can remember spending hours learning how to make it roll off my tongue. A worthy Word of the Day contender!

Example sentences

“The trouble is he spends so much time with the dog he’s prone to bouts of anthropomorphism.”

“I must say, talking to the kettle as if it can hear you is anthropomorphism of the worst kind.”
