Oprah Winfrey has announced the seven books that have helped her through a tumultuous 2020.
The year has been strange for many and various coping mechanisms have been in place- for readers like Oprah it has been disappearing into books.
Oprah started her book club in 1996 as part of The Oprah Winfrey Show. It ended in 2011 but was revived as Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 the following year and in March 2019, she announced that a televised version would air on Apple TV+.
Winfrey is calling her choices “the books that see me through,” works she values for “their ability to comfort, inspire, and enlighten”.
“It’s a mix of fiction, poetry, non-fiction and spirituality, books I know and trust and revisit time and again,” she said in a statement.
