The action of claiming back or recovering something, especially by a formal claim.
Mid 18th century. From French revendication action of claiming back or recovering a rightful possession, alteration (after re-) of reivendication from post-classical Latin rei vindicatio from classical Latin reī, genitive of rēs thing + vindicātiō action (or right) or suing for possession of (an object of which one claims ownership).
