The first season on the BBC and HBO’s adaptation of Philip Pullman’s trilogy, His Dark Materials aired in 2019 and predominately covered the first novel in the series; Northern Lights (The Golden Compass in the U.S.).

The second series which will follow on from there and jump into the second book in Pullman’s trilogy, The Subtle Knife, is rumoured to air in BBC One before the end of the year. This upcoming and much anticipated second season was first previewed with an initial teaser during Comic-Con@Home this summer. A first trailer was shared back in August and now, we get a glimpse of The Subtle Knife in a new trailer.

When we last left His Dark Materials, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) had opened a bridge to a new world. In this latest season, distraught over the death of her best friend, Lyra Belacqua will follow Asriel into the unknown, chased by the ruthless and terrifying Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson) and the Magisterium.

In a strange and mysterious abandoned city called Cittàgazze, Lyra meets Will (Amir Wilson) a boy from our world who is also running from his past. Lyra and Will soon learn that their destinies are tied together.

This latest trailer is the first full-length preview on the season and it shows Lyra Belacqua) and Will meeting in Cittàgazze. Meanwhile, Mrs Coulter will do anything to find and bring Lyra back. You can see the exciting new trailer below.
