Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones and the Six which is pitched as a “Rock ‘n’ Roll” novel was a Sunday Times And New York Times Bestseller. The book which is set in the 1970s and follows the rise of a fictional band, was published earlier this year and before it even hit the bookshelves, the rights had already been acquired by Reece Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine.
The limited 12-episode series will be distributed by Amazon after Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, got hold of a copy of Daisy Jones and the Six pre-publication and realising its amazing potential, aggressively pursued the TV rights to the title.

The musical-drama series will be produced by Reece Witherspoon, and Will Graham (The Man in the High Castle), Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Neustadter, and Circle of Confusion’s Brad Mendelsohn will exec-produce alongside her. Also joining the executive producers will be the author, Taylor Jenkins Reid herself, and Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, who are scripting and creating the series. Additionally, Niki Caro (Mulan, The Zookeeper’s Wife) has joined the series as an executive producer and will direct several of the episodes, including the pilot.

“When I heard Hello Sunshine was developing Daisy Jones & The Six, I tracked down a copy right away and devoured it in one sitting. I loved it so much I had to take it off the market and bring it to Amazon Studios,” explained Head of Amazon Studio’s Jennifer Salke, “I was immediately struck by how perfectly it fit into our overall approach of bringing passionate creators and entertaining, compelling content to our Prime Video audience. Reese, Lauren and I are kindred spirits!”

While Reece Witherspoon added, “As soon as I started reading Daisy Jones & The Six, I immediately fell head over heels in love with it, and I’m thrilled to be bringing it to the screen with Amazon and Jen Salke, whose passionate pursuit of the material spoke volumes. With Neustadter and Weber, two writers I deeply admire, stewarding this project, I am so confident that Daisy and her band’s journey toward finding their voice will leave just as permanent a mark with viewers around the world as it did with me.”

As of November this year, readers of Reid’s Daisy Jones will be excited to hear that the cast for the series is starting to come together. Riley Keough, who made her big-screen début in The Runaways alongside Dakota Fanning and Kirstin Stewart, will star as the lead singer and lead role of the production, Daisy Jones.

In companion with the streaming series of Daisy Jones and the Six, Amazon will also be distributing original music from the series via Amazon Music. Amazon has not yet announced a premiere date for the series or the music but this is an adaptation we are very excited for.
