Wild Cards to be dramatised by HBO

George R. R. Martin may be a little slow getting the next Song of Ice and Fire book released, but it does mean that the Game of Thrones television show has taken on a life of its own as the series has now surpassed the books’ timeline.

Those dedicated fans may already know that Martin has collaborated on a superhero alien fantasy series called Wild Cards, and today we bring you the news that Wild Cards is to be the next TV Epic from the Game of Thrones author!

Wild Cards is a sprawling fantasy series, imagining a world where everyone was intentionally infected by a virus in 1946. The virus has devastating effects, causing death, deformity, and in a tiny percentage of the population superpowers. While set in fantasy, Wild Cards also reflects out times with analogies reflecting persecution, bigotry and plenty of other real life issues besides.

The book series was originally collaboration between George R. R. Martin and Melinda Snograss with the first book published in 1985, ten years before the first volume of the Song of Ice and Fire series launched with Game of Thrones. However as the series progressed more authors came on board and now around thirty authors create stories all set in the same world. The twenty-third volume is soon to be released, showing the books’ popularity with readers, and now with a TV series planned with HBO it’s likely to get a whole new audience!

It’s hoped that shooting will begin in 2017 with Melinda Snodgrass and producer Gregory Noveck working on the new project.
