Graham Swift (4thMay, 1949) is a British writer and poet from London who has been writing novels and poetry since the 1980s. Born in London, Swift was educated at Dulwich College, Queens College Cambridge and later the University of York. His first novel, The Sweet Shop Owner was published in 1980.
If you haven’t heard of Graham Swift you really should have, and his work is well worth exploring with many of his novels adapted for movie. Swift is also the winner of a handful of literary awards including the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize in 1983 for Shuttlecock, the 1996 Booker Prize for Last Orders and the Guardian Fiction prize and a Booker Shortlist for Waterland, considered to be his best known, and best work.
In addition to his novels, Swift has also published several short story collections, and a nonfiction book on writing Making an Elephant: Writing from Within, which also contains some of Swift’s poetry too. Swift is still writing today and his most recent novel Mothering Sunday: A Romance was published in 2016.
