Edgar Allan Poe – 15 Quotes from the Master of the Macabre

By January 19, 2016October 6th, 2017Authors, Quotations

Edgar Allen Poe (Jan 19th 1809 – 7th October 1849) is a household name even today. There are few authors who make it into everyday life and language in the way that Poe has and it is testament to his talent that even today we’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart or heard the word Nevermore spoken.

We have collected together fifteen Poe quotes to commemorate and celebrate a great author and we hope you enjoy them.

“If you wish to forget anything on the spot, make a note that this thing is to be remembered.”

“There are moments when even to the sober eye of reason, the world of our sad humanity may assume the semblance of Hell.”

“Believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear.”

“That which you mistake for madness is but an overacuteness of the senses.”

“The best things in life make you sweaty.”

“There is no exquisite beauty… without some strangeness in the proportion.”

“A short story must have a single mood and every sentence must build towards it.”

“Never to suffer would never to have been blessed.”

“To die laughing must be the most glorious of all glorious deaths!”

“Years of love have been forgot, In the hatred of a minute”

I think the above constitute a ‘Poe’fect tribute to an amazing ‘Poe’t and Author and hope you enjoyed reading them as much as I did researching them.     *And no I am still not sorry
