Simon Mayo to Leave BBC Radio 2 to Write Contemporary Thriller

By October 23, 2018Authors, New Releases, News

This week it was announced that Simon Mayo is to leave his prime time radio slot on BBC Radio 2 and the announcement has created a lot of interest. Media agencies and newspapers are writing about his leaving and what might have brought that about but now publisher Transworld has brought an end to the speculation by announcing that the presented has signed a two-book deal with them.

It’s thought that the first book will be a contemporary thriller inspired by newspaper headlines but it’s not his first foray into writing. Mayo is already the author of Mad Blood Stirring and children’s book Itch, and announced on his Twitter account on Monday that he’s leaving Radio 2 to concentrate on the film adaptation of Mad Blood Stirring and to work on future projects.

Mad Blood Stirring is a historical novel, spun out of a single, little known historical fact and the new thriller is said to have been drawn from another small single source, this time newspaper headlines.

Mayo says that juggling his writing and presenting is becoming increasingly tricky and said this was his reason for leaving BBC Radio 2. There’s no further news yet about the new book but we’ll be back with more news as soon as we have it.
