This morning, Publishers Weekly confirmed in a tweet that beloved American author Gary Paulsen died on 13th October, aged 82.
Paulsen is best known for writing young adult fiction novels such as Hatchet, and The River, and was the other of more than 200 books that all explore adventure, survival, and the wilderness.

As well as writing young-adult fiction, Paulsen also wrote two memoirs Woodsong, and Winterdance, chronicling his life and in particular his adventures with sled-dog racing, including completing the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in 1983, the inspiration for the 2002 film Snow Dogs.
Fans of the author have taken to social media today so sum up what Paulsen’s books meant to them, and it’s clear a whole generation of wannabe intrepid adventurers is mourning today.
