North, South, East, West by Margaret Wise Brown

She may have been gone from this world for 65 years but Goodnight Moon author Margaret Wise Brown is still delighting us with never before seen children’s stories that were salvaged from her estate almost half a century after her premature death in 1952 at just forty-two years of age.

With her best known book, Goodnight Moon still selling around 800,000 copies every year Margaret’s simple and sweet writing style became a staple of every child’s bedtime ritual as they follow a cute anthropomorphic bunny around while he says goodnight to everything he meets. With many more well received and much loved children’s books published sadly Margaret was never to achieve her dream of becoming a successful author of adult fiction and she sadly passed away from an embolism after an appendectomy.

Already published posthumously after author Amy Gary discovered a trunk full of the author’s unpublished stories in 1990 Margaret has never quite managed to achieve the success of Goodnight Moon until perhaps now.
In this latest publication called “North, South, East, West” Margaret takes her readers along for the ride as a baby bird ventures from its nest for the very first time and this little excerpt from the book promises us another gem of a story that will keep our little ones entertained for years to come.

It’s time for a little bird to fly away
to the north, the south, the east, and the west.
Which direction will she like best?

I want to read the rest and I don’t even have any little ones that I can read to.
