Christopher Tolkien, son of famed fantasy writer J.R.R. Tolkien, has passed away at the age of 95, according to the Tolkien Society. An accomplished writer and editor in his own right, Christopher Tolkien spent decades editing and collecting his father’s work, giving us a much greater insight into the world of Middle-Earth.
A statement read: “Christopher Tolkien has died at the age of 95. The Tolkien Society sends its deepest condolences to Baillie, Simon, Adam, Rachel and the whole Tolkien family.”
Widely regarded by fans as the steward of Middle-Earth, it’s thanks to Christopher Tolkien that we have as much insight as we do into his father’s work. Many of Tolkien’s books were published after his death, including The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The History of Middle-Earth and The Children of Hurin. Christopher played an important role in breathing fresh life into Middle-Earth following his father’s death, and his own passing will be felt by all who have enjoyed the works of both Tolkiens. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
