Dick Bruna, the creator of beloved bunny rabbit character Miffy, has died aged 89.
He wrote and illustrated around 124 picture books, and also designed posters and books for the Black Bear pocket edition books.
During a career spanning 60 years, Bruna became internationally well-known. Although he retired in 2011, his works continued to be published in over 60 countries!
Like many creative and artistic people, Dick Bruna cared deeply about the world and the people in it. He frequently used his talents as graphic designer and illustrator in service to humanity. He designed posters for worthy causes such as Terre des Hommes, The Red Cross, Het Groene Kruis, UNICEF, Nationale Boomfeestdag (Dutch National Tree Planting Day), SOS Kinderdorpen (organisation for orphans), and the Ronald McDonald House. He was also involved in creating murals for children’s wards of many hospitals. His contributions extended to special publications including books for children undergoing neurological treatment or those with hearing impairments.
