UK power adapters affected
Amazon has announced a voluntary recall and exchange programme for some of its power adapters today over a concern that they could prove an electrical shock risk.
There’s no need to panic, and only certain model numbers are affected but if you own a UK Kindle Fire 7” or a UK Fire Kids Edition 7” you might want to check your power adapter.
On the prong side of the plug part of your charger you will see some written information with details about the device. In here, to the left you’ll see a Model No, if this model number matches FABK7B then you need to exchange or replace your power adapter.
Amazon are offering two alternatives for those affected, either you can register your charger online and the company will send you a free replacement, or you can receive £12 credit to your Amazon account if you’d like to buy a different power adapter. Whichever option you choose, Amazon will send you a prepaid envelope so you can send the affected power adaptor back, free of charge.
International and US customers are not affected by this as it only concerns UK chargers, but if you own a Fire device, it’s recommended that you check yours. Concerns have been that when detaching the charger from the wall the lead can become loose, increasing the risk of an electric shock.
