By May 24, 2018Adaptations, News, Video

Originally published in 1991, Troll Bridge was a short story set in the Discworld series that was included a book of short stories called After the King: Stories in Honour of J.R.R. Tolkien. Troll Bridge follows an aging barbarian named Cohen who plans to kill a troll in single combat. Cohen finds an old troll, but the two end up reminiscing about how life used to be, before the lands were settled and when there were true heroes and monsters.

In 2011, it was announced that the story was going to be adapted into a film. Production begun under the helm of Snowgum Films and the studio’s crew is made up almost entirely of volunteers. Funds were raised via a Kickstarter campaign which aimed to raise at least $45,000, though it smashed that goal and ended with a total amount of $82,000 raised.

Fans of Terry Pratchett’s magical and humorous world will be pleased to learn that the first official trailer for Troll Bridge has been released and is being sent to various film festivals for consideration. The trailer is certainly impressive and appears to be a mix of gorgeous visuals as well as Pratchett’s classic wit. An exact release date is yet to be announced but it would appear the film will release later this year. For more information, and to pre-order the film, check out the official website.
