Later this month a graphic novel adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic novel The Handmaid’s Tale will be released. Canadian artist Renee Nault has been working on this visual representation of the classic for the last four years and the book will be released in hardback on 26th March with pre-orders available on the link at the bottom of this piece.
The new book is released “With the aim of making this edition a standalone work of art, she has brought Atwood’s terrifying modern classic to vivid life as never before,” said the publisher Jonathan Cape for the UK release, while Doubleday will publish the US version of the graphic novel.
The novel offers a stark, artistic cover but a peak inside shows the fantastic artistic representation of one of the world’s best loved novels.

The release is not Atwood’s first venture into graphic fiction, the author wrote Angel Catbird as an homage to the golden age of comic books and the radio hour thrillers she loved as a child.

In addition to this new graphic version of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments will be published later this year, a long awaited sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, set fifteen years after Offred’s final scene.
The new releases follow a marked rise in popularity of The Handmaid’s Tale following Donald Trump’s 2016 election win, inspiring a new television adaptation and new interest in the story.
