Labelled as the eighth story in the series, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has smashed US pre-order records as the most pre-ordered book breaking the record set in 2007! That’s quite an accolade for something that isn’t even a book but a script of the play, opening to the public this month in London.
It’s not just Amazon sales either, Barnes and Noble confirmed that they too have sold more pre-orders for The Cursed Child than any other book. It’s smashed the 2007 pre-order record set by the seventh book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
It seems the Hogwarts’ Express has plenty of life in the gravy train yet as the frenzy for anything Harry Potter related anything is showing no signs of abating! While there has been some negativity about the eighth edition, namely it being a script and not a novel, and having not been originally written by Rowling, it hasn’t slowed sales in the slightest with even more pre-orders then the previous book.
The play is based on Rowling’s original story and is set 19 years later, after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and concerns events that happen after Harry waves his children off onto the train at the end of the seventh book. By now Harry is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic and a father of three, but as the play shows, he’s still in the shadow of his childhood infamy.
When the story was first announced it was announced as a play only, but due to demand and the backlash from fans who can’t get to, or can’t afford to pay hundreds for tickets for the play, the script has been released as a book. It looks set to be the bestselling book of the year, and shows that the Harry Potter story is far from over where the fans are concerned.
