A novel way to encourage reading, Mundelein High School District 120, Chicago, Illinois have transformed their English department hallway into an amazing learning environment.
Using walls either side of the classroom doorways which jut out like book spines, this High school have turned their corridor into a bookshelf-esque line-up just in time for students returning from their Christmas break in January. In a post on Facebook the High School explained, “A Routine hallway has been transformed into a giant motivational tableau to encourage reading.”

This stunning project, which was designed by Visual Image Photography, uses vinyl murals to turn the walls into giant book titles. Among the books chosen to adorn these walls are; Bear Town by Fredrik Backman, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, and October Mourning by Leslea Newman.
The effect of these transformations is truly amazing to look at and we hope the students are in awe with this artwork in their school as much as we are.

What a nice surprise for the students to come back to after their Christmas break.
How is it gonna be a surprise when it’s all over the media. haha
have a nice day Gall Gilchrist.
This is great, wish more schools can adopt this trend. Love it.
Encourage reading. Fantastic!
This is Cool!!! I wish my high school did this!!!
Cost please ?
We have no idea, sorry. You’d have to contact the school themselves if you wanted more details.
Intellectual property rights question. Did the school get permission from the publishers?
I guess that would be between the school and the publishers.
Educational purposes are covered under Copyright law.
generally when you’re promoting literature in a not for profit fashion, you don’t have to ask permission to display book covers.
What do the Math rooms have around their doors?
Mundelein HS is in Mundelein, NOT Chicago. Someone needs to do their homework..
This location is taken from the high school’s Facebook page.
ok ok its a northern suburb of Chicago. Please don’t lose sight of the message, the intent to inspire, not be critical. ugh!!
Εμπνευσμένη σύλληψη. Παίρνουμε ωραίες ιδέες, που με μικρές ή μεγάλες τροποποιήσεις μπορούν να υλοποιηθούν.
Love it
Wonderful! But do it in the science hallway or math hallway; better still, do it all over the school: reading is for everyone! Those books are part of life and lifelong learning, not just English class or confined to the English hallway.
I love this and will get the idea to local schools.
Please let me know where you purchased the graphics for the block wall covers. That is ingenious.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO PURCHASE THE WALL GRAPHICS?
Thank you,
Trig
I would think one of the local wrap companies that do cars, could do something like this.
Very cool
