Your Favourite Festive Words

There are so many pretty words surrounding the festive season, even ‘festive’ conjures up wonderful images. Maybe that’s the point and many of our favourite words come from the images they evoke rather than the words themselves, but the ones surrounding Christmas just seem to have a certain magic around them.

I have my own favourites, and I thought that you probably would too, so we asked you for your favourite festive words and the results were somewhat surprising.

I will say that for a page full of book lovers I’m not all that surprised that the most voted word is a literary reference from the classic British Christmas book, a Christmas Carol from Dickens. Yes, twice as many of you voted for ‘Humbug’ as any other word and it takes top place in the list of festive words you voted. Some of you must like Christmas, surely?

We did have a few more cheery words make the list, ‘Holly’ and ‘Yuletide’ in particular stir festive feelings in many of you and for others it’s the feeling of ‘Peace’ or the religious aspect of the ‘Nativity’ that gets you feeling all Christmassy.
