Meryl Streep Cast in Upcoming Little Women Adaptation

By July 5, 2018Adaptations, News

It was recently announced that a Hollywood film adaptation of Louisa May-Alcott’s classic novel Little Women is set to be filmed. The movie is going to be directed by Greta Gerwig, who recently received acclaim for directing the 2017 film Lady Bird. The film already has a star-studded cast, but now it has been announced that three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep is also on board.

The veteran actress has been cast in the role of Aunt March and will be joined by Emma Stone as Meg March, Saoirse Ronan as Jo March, Florence Pugh as Amy March, and Timothee Chalamet as Laurie Laurence, certainly not a bad line-up!

As The Los Angeles Times reports, the film will apparently focus on the March sisters during their young adult lives, rather than their childhoods. The film is expected to begin filming this Autumn and will be released in 2019 which, coincidentally, will mark the novel’s 150th birthday. Given the serious amount of talent behind this project, it certainly looks like this will be a film adaptation that does manage to live up to the quality of the book.
