This year Winchester is celebrating Jane Austen, on the 200th anniversary of the author’s death, and today it’s been announced that there is to be a Winchester Monopoly, created to mark Austen 200.
Winchester is the final resting place of novelist Jane Austen who died in the city in 1817, aged just 41, an event that will be marked this year in a series of events in the city and around the world.
Custom board game manufacturers Winning Moves UK has looked at what Monopoly money may look like with Austen featuring on the notes in what would be a lovely tribute. No details have yet been provided about the game, but it’s like to feature landmarks from around Winchester, such as Winchester Cathedral where the author rests.
Right now residents are being given the chance to nominate landmarks around the city to feature on spaces on the board. Once decided, the new game will be launched later this year.
This isn’t the first literary version of Monopoly launched, creators have produced many versions in the past including Library Monopoly, Lord of the Rings Monopoly, Hobbit Monopoly, and a Game of Thrones version among others. We featured the literary Monopoly sets available in a previous blog and you can see all the versions of Literary Monopoly featured here.
