The news that Netflix is to adapt classis manga series Death Note has been received with trepidation by fans of the series. Originally purchased by Warner, production switched to Netflix last year, and now the first Teaser Trailer is released and it’s promising to be dark and atmospheric.
The series features Light, a character who comes into possession of a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name is written in it. Light decides the use it to rid the world of evil, spawning an entire series totalling 108 issues between 2003 and 2006.
The adaptation is taking the story, and Light, into a single movie but it has a tough act to follow. The collection has been pulled together in a dozen graphic novels, three live action anime Japanese films, an anime series and a number of video games.

If you’re looking forward to the adaptation, the movie releases in August and there will no doubt follow more trailers and teasers before then.
If you do want to read the graphic series first, there are twelve books to get through so you need to get started quickly.
