Extinction Rebellion Anthology Coming After Protests

By April 29, 2019New Releases

Penguin Books is to release an anthology from environmental protest group Extinction Rebellion who have held protests in London, Cardiff and other parts of the UK this month. The protests have been a response to alarming scientific findings concerning climate change and the government’s failure to act.

This is Not a Drill: An Extinction Rebellion Handbook was originally slated for release later this year but after the protests, publishing has been rushed through and the book will now be released on 3rd June, with the publisher stating that ‘this is an emergency and we have to react like it’s an emergency.’

This is Not a Drill is an anthology comprising 30 original essays from contributors such as the ex Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, environmental lawyer Farhana Yamin, former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, activist Vandana Shiva, and other activists who have stood at the heart of the movement.

The book is in two parts, the first half “Tell the Truth” details the facts on climate breakdown, scientific findings and dispatches from the ecological crises unfolding around the world, from cities such as California to mountain ranges like the Himalayas, both of which are currently seeing the harmful effects of climate change. The second half of the book, “Act Now” will share practical instructions on how to rebel including information on how to organise a roadblock, what to do when faced with arrest and how to cook for 1,000 protestors.

This is Not a Drill: An Extinction Rebellion Handbook is being described as the crowdsourced knowledge of our movement and will be released on 3rd June with pre-orders open now.
