Publishing Deal for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘Lost Stories’

I’d Die for You: And Other Lost Stories Out in the Spring!

We have fantastic news for fans of F. Scott Fitzgerald today as it transpires that Simon & Schuster’s US imprint Scribner is to publish the last remaining unpublished stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald next spring.

The Great Gatsby author was a prolific writer and many of his works are available and still popular today, but this collection of stories, entitled I’d Die for You: And Other Lost Stories is due for release next spring, around April 2017.

The series has been edited by Anne Margaret Daniel and are made up of a series of stories Fitzgerald wrote at the height of his alcoholism in the late 1930s. At the time many of the stories were rejected for publication because they covered subjects considered controversial in the 1930s, and moved away from what publishers had come to expect from the author.

Despite recommendations to edit and sanitise his work, Fitzgerald preferred to let his work remain unpublished, even at a time when he was in great need of money, and some new notoriety for more than his alcoholism. It now seems that the moralistic view has paid off, if not for him then at least for literature as the stories are now considered suitable for a present day audience.

The collection is said to be written in Fitzgerald’s characteristically sharp and beautiful style and offer new insight into the uncompromising and bold arc of his career.

Although a firm publication date for I’d Die for You: And other Lost Stories isn’t yet announced, the book is already on pre-order and is thought to be out some time during April 2017.
