Sally Rooney, the author of the critically acclaimed novel, Normal People which was also adapted into a hit TV series, is back with her third novel. Beautiful World, Where Are You will be Sally Rooney’s third novel following her début novel, Conversations With Friends (2018) and, of course, Normal People (2019).
Rooney’s latest novel was announced by her UK publisher, Faber & Faber. Beautiful World, Where Are You follows the two characters Alice and Eileen who are two friends who find themselves following very different trajectories in life. Similar to Rooney’s début novel, much of Alice and Eileen’s relationship is depicted through email exchanges that explore art, friendship, complicated love affairs that unfold in their lives, and the world around them.
Alice is a novelist who meets Felix, a distribution warehouse worker and she asks him to go to Rome with her. Meanwhile, Eileen is in Dublin, recovering from a break-up and finds herself flirting with Simon, a childhood friend.
Alex Bowler, the publisher at Faber & Faber who acquired the novel as part of a two-book deal, called it “a book of friendship and sex, art and faith, power and love. It absorbs you once again in the inner lives of characters with brilliant minds and aching hearts, while marking the next creative leap from a singular writer. The book scintillates with intelligence, empathy and, yes, beauty.”
Beautiful World, Where Are You published on 7th September 2021 and it is available to pre-order now. Faber & Faber will publish Sally Rooney’s novel in hardback and two special editions of it will be available in Waterstones and independent bookshops. In the US Sally Rooney’s Beautiful World, Where Are You will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
