Beki İkala Erikli a Turkish author known for her self-help books that focus on spiritual well-being has been shot dead by a woman who claims that her novels caused her to see the devil.
Best known for her book ‘Living with Angels’, – a spiritual self-help guide to connecting with angels Erikli, a well-known Turkish self-help book author, was shot as she got into a lift at her office called ‘Fantasy World’ in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on Sunday Dec 18th Doğan News Agency reported.
A parapsychologist as well as an author Erikli was murdered by a woman who she had been treating and who claims that she acted due to the fact her “her psychological state had been badly affected by the author’s books, causing her to see the Devil” Sinem Koç said in a statement to the police “I reached a conviction that she was a person harmful for other people. She is a devil. I decided to kill her so that she could not harm others.”
Koç said she attended three of the author’s seminars but had then “started to see the devil and other kinds of creatures.” She said: “I was not able to sleep for two months. By killing her I prevented many others from going through the same problems.”
A note which Koç was in possession of when arrested read: “I had a very beautiful life. Until I met this woman.” She has been ordered to undergo mental health examinations pending charges of deliberate killing.
Perhaps most poignantly of all it appears the author’s reported final Tweet was almost prophetic as she posted “Time is your most precious treasure. You cannot buy time. When your time runs out, you cannot even buy one minute.”
