Sir Patrick Stewart Has Joined TikTok, and He’s Here to Read to You

Sir Patrick Stewart, famed for his roles in Star Trek, Family Guy, and the X-Men franchise, has joined TikTok, and he’s here to make your Christmas even cosier by reading excerpts of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol over the next 12 days.

In his first video, Stewart writes: “My first TikTok!? Please enjoy day one of 12 days of mini readings from A Christmas Carol, a novel that’s meant a great deal to me in my life. Cheers!”

Stewart’s arrival on TikTok has been met with an extremely warm welcome by its users. Only 24 hours after his first video’s publication, it has garnered over 500,000 Likes, over 14,00 comments, and almost 30,000 Shares. One user commented: “That’s it, 2022 has been worth it for Sir Patrick Stewart joining tiktok,” with another saying: “Story time with Sir Patrick Stewart fills me with Joy!!”

Stewart actually has a long history with the classic Dickens tale. In 1987, he premiered his one-man stage performance of the tale, playing more than 30 different characters. The show was met with critical acclaim and won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, and was eventually taken to broadway. Following this, Stewart played the miser Scrooge in a 1999 film adaptation, alongside Richard E. Grant as Bob Cratchit. Stewart was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2006, Stewart narrated an audiobook version of A Christmas Carol.
