Michelle and Barrack Obama have taken to Instagram to read us a story!
In association with Chicago Public Library, the well-loved couple decided to read The Word Collector by Peter H Reynolds.
The Instagram video begins with Michelle and Obama explaining their love for libraries and the work they are doing to help bring resources to others.
“I remember my first trip to the library and how important I felt. It was around age four, and my library card was the key that unlocked a world of knowledge and experiences,” said Michelle.
Barrack went on to explain their plans to improve access by bringing another branch of the Chicago Public Library to the South Side.
“Public libraries are essential institutions and that is why we are bringing a new branch of the Chicago Public Library to the Obama Presidential Centre on the Southside. When it opens it will give families one more chance to explore their interests, learn, and engage with their communities.”

Barack and I had so much fun reading “The Word Collector” for a family read-a-long through the @ChicagoPublicLibrary. This book is one of my favorites—it brings me back to being a little kid, making my way through the stacks at our neighborhood library, discovering new worlds, and losing myself in the magic of words. I hope you and your children enjoy it as much as we did.
