The Official Terry Pratchett Biography is Out This Year!

By January 28, 2022New Releases, News

The official biography of Sir Terry Pratchett, creator of the Discworld series of novels, is due for release this year.

The book, A Life With Footnotes, had been originally started by Terry himself before it was handed over to his long term friend and colleague Rob Wilkins when Death took Terry for a walk and a chat in 2015.

Rob Wilkins had been Pratchett’s assistant and friend for over 2 decades, and is now in charge of the Pratchett Estate, so who better than Rob to finish the story?

The memoir will take the reader through Terry’s life from his school days where he was told by a teacher that he would “never amount to anything”, all the way to him creating a whole universe of characters and places, producing bestsellers, and winning literary awards.

The memoir also chronicles Terry’s later years, including the important charity work he did with environmental and humanitarian causes, and ultimately how he coped with ‘The Embuggerance’ of Alzheimer’s.

Rob Wilkins says: “Living a life alongside one of the world’s greatest authors, then reliving every moment for his biography, has been an incredible journey. Terry was one of the most talented, complex, intellectually stimulating people I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting – a true genius. The responsibility of documenting his life when I lived so much of it with him has been such an emotive experience. A Life with Footnotes is a book that I hope would have made Terry proud.”

Transworld managing director Larry Finlay says: “A Life with Footnotes captures the genius that was Terry Pratchett, with warmth, poignancy, and great good humour – and with no small amount of love. It’s an intimate, engaging and revealing portrait of one of the UK’s most loved and most missed authors, that only Rob Wilkins could have written. It is a masterclass in great biographical writing.”

Terry Pratchett: A Life with Footnotes will be published by Doubleday on 29 September 2022.
