By April 23, 2023Adaptations, News

TV shows based on popular books are all the rage these days, from Amazon’s Rings of Power to Netflix’s Bridgerton. It was recently announced that a Harry Potter TV show is in development, and it seems one based on the Twilight saga is also in early development at Lionsgate Television, according to THR.

The source claims the show is being written by Sinead Daly, who has previously worked on the likes of Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Get Down. It’s still very early days for the show, and it is yet to be announced which platform or network it will air on, from Netflix to HBO, but the studio intends to shop the rights further into the project’s development. It is said the author of the books, Stephanie Meyer, will be involved in some capacity.

Lionsgate Television has declined to comment on the reported show, but no doubt ther eare plenty of fans of the books and franchise who will be eager to see Twilight hit the small screen. As a major part of Liongate’s portfolio, it seems to have only been a matter of time before the series is revived in some way.

When asked about the possibility of Twilightreturning in some form, along with The Hunger Games franchise, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said to Wall Street: “there are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories.”

It is unclear at this time exactly what the show will be about in terms of its setting, story and characters. It may be a reboot which sees the books adapted with a new cast for TV, or it may be a continuation of where the films left off. There is no word on whether the stars of the films, such as Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart, will reprise their roles.
