Watch: The Witches Trailer Drops Ahead of Movie Release Later This Month

The latest film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel The Witches, is due to be released to HBO Max in October. Ahead of its release, Warner Bros. have given fans a sneak peak of what to expect in an official trailer.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, this new film is the second adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches. The original was released 30 years ago in 1990 and starred Anjelica Huston and Rowan Atkinson. Warner Bros. who are behind this new Max Original film have stated that their movie ‘The Witches’ will not be a remake of the original but rather a reimagining of the story as told by Roald Dahl in his novel.

2020’s The Witches will notably star Anne Hathaway in the role of The Grand High Witch, Stanley Tucci as the hotel manager Mr Stringer, Octavia Spencer as the grandmother, and it will be narrated by Chris Rock.

In this first look at the film, we see a young boy named Luke (Jahzir Kadeem Bruno) who moves in with his grandmother following his mother’s death. Together, they set off to stay in a grand hotel for a holiday but it has been taken over a group of witches who have disguised themselves as ordinary women.

The wigs ripped off the reveal the witch beneath, they plot of transform all of the world’s children into rodents with a drop of potion. Luke gets caught up in the scheme and is turned into a mouse. It becomes up to him and his grandmother to work together and end the witches’ evil plan.

Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, The Witches will be skipping cinemas in the United States all together and heading straight to the streaming platform, HBO Max. However, internationally, the film is still lined up for theatrical release because unfortunately, HBO Max is unavailable outside of America.

The Witches will be released to HBO Max in America on 21st October and it is scheduled to be released into cinemas internationally a week after on 28th October.

Robert Zemekis helped direct the project and co-wrote the script alongside Kenya Barris and Guillermo del Toro, who also served as a producer for the film.
