The New York Public Library is the second largest public library system in the US, and one of the biggest in the world, and it gives us a good sense of what readers have been enjoying through the year.
This year the library book elves have collated lists that represent the most checked-out books in 2019 across New York. You can even see the most popular books at specific branches in Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx.
Jodi Picoult’s A Spark of Light was the only book to top Michelle Obama’s Becoming by taking the number one spot in Staten Island. Staten Island, along with the Bronx, seemed to be home to a curious amount of James Patterson readers, despite Patterson not appearing in many other boroughs. Of the ten top books in the Bronx, Patterson novels six of the places and in Staten Island, he holds an impressive seven.
We have collated the main list below, but if you want to delve deeper just visit the NYPL website.
