Sony Columbia Pictures has announced that it is to create a CG motion based picture, bringing Peter Rabbit to life on the big screen. The works of Beatrix Potter have transcended the ages, and children still love them today and so it’s likely that the movie is going to be incredibly popular!
The movie will be entitled Peter Rabbit with James Corden as the voice of the eponymous character and Rose Byrne as ‘Bea’. Daisy Ridley and Elizabeth Debicki will also lend their voices to the film, but as yet full casting has not been announced.
Peter Rabbit, the movie will be made at Animal Logic, an Australian based picture studio and will be directed by Will Gluck of Olive Bridge Entertainment. The movie will be based on Beatrix Potter’s original work with the screenplay written by Rob Lieber.
Production of the film will begin in earnest in the New Year and it’s scheduled for worldwide release in April 2018 after Sony Columbia purchased the rights from Warne, a division of Penguin Random House.
The original stories were written and illustrated as The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter and were originally published by Frederick Warne & co in 1902. Penguin Random House acquired the publisher in the late 1980s and has published the traditional stories since. Though PRH still owns the rights to all of Potter’s works, Sony Pictures Entertainment will now create licensing and merchandising for the new movie.
What is for sure though is that this movie is likely to introduce a whole new generation to Potter’s works, and that’ll be good news for sales of the original books too!
